Kamogelo Machaba
Kamogelo Machaba (b. 1998) is a Johannesburg based multi-disciplinary artist, specialising in photography, set design, fashion, styling, print making and painting. She is incredibly passionate about storytelling, doing so in bright, vivid colour.
Kamogelo hails from Polokwane in Limpopo where she was inspired to get into photography after starring in a number of photo shoots as a model. This was exciting at first, and even though she still harbours a prolific love for modelling, she wanted to be more than the pretty face in front of the camera but the insightful, creative mind and hands behind it as well.
She developed her photographic eye and her photographic style through her enamoured love for fashion. In the fashion world models tower above buildings, colour rules the canvas and lighting is a fundamental part of telling a story through the still image and its muses. This led Kamogelo down the immensely creative and free flowing path that is editorial and fine art photography, where she would find her aesthetic.
Machaba is has also taken to the printing press as she endeavors to bring conversations about living with albinism and all that the condition entails, along with an everlasting zest for life and childlike appreciation and eagerness to learn, to the forefront of the artistic conversations held in rooms all around her.
Kamogelo Machaba is represented by Berman Contemporary.
