A NOTE OF THANKS

As the year 2021 draws to an end, we would like to thank you, our clients and artists, who have contributed and supported Berman Contemporary throughout another challenging time. Our clients have continuously encouraged the team during these difficult days and our artists inspired us to keep thinking outside of the box and make our mark in the contemporary art world. Thank you for continuing to support and invest in the arts!

We would like to share with you our highlights of another extraordinary year in the 4 years of the gallery's existence. In the midst of devastating challenges of the global pandemic and the South African Covid-19 lockdown regulations, most of our exhibitions could open as foreseen and planned. This year Berman Contemporary could attend again the 1:54 Contemporary African Art fair in London, presenting work of the artists: Amogelang Maepa, Dudubloom More and Hazel Mphande and participate in the online Investec Cape Town Art Fair with Chrisél Attewell and Robyn Denny.

The digital initiatives developed in 2020 provided us with new avenues and encouraged us to reimagine and diversify our channels of access to artistic practices and artworks in 2021. This new way of working allowed you to browse artworks via viewing rooms and curated online exhibitions on ARTSY, which links were added to our monthly newsletter and exhibition invitations. The transition to a hybrid approach with virtual platforms and physical presence will be intensified in 2022.

In response to lockdown life, Candice Berman developed a second series of artist prints for the Artists Solidarity Assistance Project (ASAP). The sale of prints brought in a much-needed income for the artists to cover costs of daily living, studio rent and art materials. Right from the beginning, the initiative has been supported again by many of you.

The Berman Contemporary team wishes you a happy holiday season full of warmth, love and joy. May 2022 be a safe, healthy and prosperous year for all of us. We'll be stopping our newsletters until February 2022 and reducing support as our gallery closes from 22 December - 9 January. We look forward to welcome you again in person at the opening of the exhibition with Work on Paper, Saturday 5 February 2022. Save also the dates of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair in your agenda: 18-20 February 2022. We will be present in the Main Section with Chrisél Attewell and Barbara Schroeder and have a solo exhibition with Dudubloom.

LINE(S) OF EVIDENCE

INGRID BOLTON

29 May - 25 July 2021
The evidence presented here for this exhibition is my evidence of exploration, in this case of materials or compounds. Copper, magnetite, vermiculite, coal, calcium carbonate and porcelain intersect through my work and have been used separately in the past but here they come together, finding a place alongside each other. This line is a line where I, as a human, interact with nature. Where I make connections between compounds and how I intersect with nature.

ASAP 2021

The Covid-19 global pandemic affects all artists in South Africa.

In 2020 Candice Berman formed the novel relief programme Artists Solidarity Assistance Project 2020 dedicated to South African visual artists. Just over a year later, the initiative is still thriving and the proceeds from the edition sales have greatly assisted these artists with financial relief allowing them to pay studio and other living expenses. Owing to the success of this initiative Candice has extended the project to the ASAP 2021 with a New Collection of images
