GALLERY NEWS

Berman Contemporary is delighted to announce that we will have two booths at Investec Cape Town Art Fair. In the Main section we are pleased to present
Barbara Schroeder and Chrisél Attewell.

The Main Section lies at the core of the Fair, showcasing presentations of contemporary art by leading galleries from around the globe.

In our Solo Booth [SOLO: insight-out], we are pleased to present DuduBloom More.

SOLO explores how artists have reacted to the isolation period, as well as opening up a conversation about the effect that exchange, and collaboration has in the artist’s production. The questions of how sharing has enriched the artist’s practice and how virtual contact has impacted their practice come to mind.

Welcome To Berman Contemporary

We would like to welcome Gina van der Ploeg and Natalie de Morney to Berman Contemporary.  After an intensive period of working together as part of The New Vanguard group, both artists agreed to be represented by Berman Contemporary.
GINA VAN DER PLOEG
Gina van der Ploeg was born in Cape Town (b.1994 ), where she completed her Fine Art degree with distinction at Michaelis in 2017. She has been intrigued by the ritual of art making through textiles (an age old “craft” that undermines the idea of “fine art”), how our bodies become present in the art we produce, and ways in which objects can elicit embodied responses from people.

A successful civil engineer until, at the age of 33, she left that career behind to follow her passion of becoming the artist she always dreamt of being, since she was a little girl…

Barbara Schroeder

UNDER THE SURFACE | 2021
In the ACEC Salon Barbara Schroeder and Iris Burghout present the duo exhibition Under The Surface. The spatial work of both artists evokes the memory of underground root systems and fungal structures.
The title of the exhibition refers not only to these visual associations with vegetable nature, but also to the content of the work. With their work, the artists both refer to the underlying natural processes in the world around us, the way in which things, visibly and invisibly, are interrelated.

Ingrid Bolton
