Dave Robertson

“Robertson’s Transition Print Series instantaneously captures the wondrous element of surprise intrinsic to the artist’s take on life. A documentation of his travels through Egypt, Ethiopia, Mali, Malawi, Namibia, and South Africa – the artist’s home country – Transition once again scuppers the appropriative detachment one typically associates which an ethnographic travelling eye. This is because, as always, Robertson remains unmoved by the ruse of objectification associated with the camera eye. Distinctively Expressionistic, this series instead reaffirms the impossibility of a seamless coherence between scene and seen, and the temperamental glitch wired into the technology which makes it possible to imagine such a smooth mediation.”
