Cow Mash
THE FULL PACKAGE SERIES | 2022

I was inspired by the shoe boxes my mother keeps, each dedicated to a different category of items that cannot be thrown away. Some are full of threads, others of fabric, and still others of paper and documents. When I was younger, I remember cleaning and re sorting these collections, and I couldn’t help but think that if anyone got a hold of them, they would learn so much about my family.
For me, these cardboard crates are like mini memory vaults that hold stories and information that I can’t bear to part with. It’s similar to the way we traditionally view the cow in my culture when a ceremony calls for a cow to be slaughtered, we believe that no part of it should go to waste, and every single part is either used or kept.
Likewise, the mini memories and stories contained within each of my mother’s boxes are an integral part of who I am, and cannot be discarded.
